EMC was a multinational corporation founded in 1979 in Massachusetts, US. The company name derives from the founders names. Richard Egan, Roger Marino and John Curly (the E, The M and the C). There is actually an additional C, which stands for Corporation, but instead of writing it as EMCC, they wrote the name as EMC2 to make it look fancy as it relates to Albert Einstein’s Energy Mass Equation: E=mc2.
EMC introduced their first 64-kilobyte memory boards in 1981. In the mid-1980s EMC expanded beyond memory to other computer data storage types and networked storage platforms.
Dell EMC
On september 7, 2016, Dell Inc. acquired EMC in order to evolve the company into the most relevant areas where IT is moving. This by combining Dell’s enterprise server and personal computer with EMC’s enterprise storage business. As a result of the merger EMC has been renamed to Dell EMC.
