Lenovo is a multinational tech company with headquarter in Beijing, China and Morrisville, North Carolina, US. They design, develop, manufacture and sell many different types of technology equipment: Personal computers, workstations, servers, IT management software and electronic storage devices are just a few of their products.
Lenovo was initially founded as “Legend” in 1984 in Beijing by researchers from a science academy. They started as a distributor for personal computers for IBM, HP and AST (a taiwanese PC maker) in China.
They decided in 2003 that it was time to expand to the international market, so they chose to abandon their former english name, Legend, and their Chinese name, Liánxiǎng (聯想), which means “association” or “connected thinking”. They changed their name to “Lenovo” – a blend of “Le”, from Legend, and “novo”, latin for “new”.
Lenovo is the largest computer company in China, and the third largest computer company in the world. They have operations in more than 60 countries and sells their products to more than 160 countries. With 8 research centres and 3 operational centers around the world, they contribute with a lot of innovative solutions to the tech world.
Lenovo acquired IBM’s personal computer business in 2005 and agreed to acquire its Intel-based server business in 2014.
The very popular business computer, Lenovo Thinkpad turns 25 years in 2017. It is still up to this day one of the most popular computer for business professionals.
