Original Equipment Manufacturer

An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is a company that manufactures parts and equipment that may be marketed by another manufacturer. An example is if Company A makes hardware for Company B, that makes Company A an OEM.

Some manufacturers use OEM’s to drive down the cost of production. Using OEM’s allows companies to obtain some specific components for their products without owning and operating a factory.
